What Is The Italian Mafia Hierarchy?
The Italian Mafia Hierarchy is a very simple structure. It consists of The Boss (Godfather) having the most power in the Mafia. Under him is the Consigliere, he advises the family with any problems that they are having. They have the lowest profile of gang activity, are representatives when meeting with other families/ gangs, and can always be trusted. Next is the Underboss, they are appointed by The Boss. They control the Capos and is second in command. He is also the future Boss if the current one dies or is imprisoned. Then, the Capos (Captains) are next in line. They command one of 6-9 crews in the family. They control their small family with specific limitations and are hired by The Boss himself. Second to Last is the Soldier, and they must be of Italian background. They always start off as associates and have proven themselves to become a soldier. When there is an open slot, a Capo recommends someone to become soldier to The Boss. If The Boss says yes, then that person becomes a soldier and joins the Capo that recommended him. Lastly, the Associates are people who are not officially part of the Mafia. They are known as the errand boy, and non-Italians will never go higher than this rank. (Mafia Structure and Definitions)
